A Mint Set is one coin from each denomination from each mint producing
regular-issue coins for circulation.
You should get two packets of coins mint sealed in special protective
packaging, one with blue border from the Philadelphia mint and one with
red border from the Denver mint. The only exception is the special mint
sets of 1965, 1966 and 1967 in which the mints didn't put their mint marks
on the coins so you only get one coin of each denomination.
Currently circulating coins,
If you look at the coins in your pocket you can see they all have little
bumps and scratches and most are worn and ugly looking.

Collectors pay a premium over face value because, although an Uncirculated coin might have some bag marks it hasn't been handled, it's the best it can be for a regular-issue coin. |
