This is by far the most frequently asked question and the hardest one to
answer, the short answer is what ever someone is willing to give you.
To get an idea of what you could expect to get for your coins you need to
know
How a coins value is determined
, then you need to know
How to identify your coin
, you need to know about
Mint Marks on U.S. Coins
and you need to know about
The A.N.A. coin grading system.
After you know how and what to look for you can get an idea what your coin
is worth with a price guide book, I use both the
Blue Book and the
Red book for ease of use, look ups.
Both books provide general reference information on dates, mint marks,
major varieties, grading guidelines, prices and mintage figures, so at the
very least you will know if you have a rare coin.

The descriptions of the coins are a little more expanded in the red book
so if you buy only one book get the red book, just remember when selling
or buying the price differences between retail and wholesale can be from
30% to 50% depending on the coin.
But as always if you don't like the price, don't sell / buy. |
